ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State led wire-to-wire and handed SWOSU an 87-61 setback on Thursday evening at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, snapping a four-game win streak by the Bulldogs that spanned better than one month.
The Reddies held SWOSU to 30% (20-of-66) shooting for the night and built a 20-point lead at the intermission. Henderson State connected on 34-of-69 (49%) of their field goals and hit 5-of-15 (33%) three-pointers while dominating with 48 points in the point, compared to just 16 for the Bulldogs.
SWOSU was led by
Devin Pugh, who scored 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting while hitting 3-of-9 attempts from three-point range. Pugh was the only Bulldogs to reach double figures in scoring and he led the team with seven rebounds as well.
Luke Lewallen and
Geoffery Hightower each added nine points, a number that now represents a new career-high for Hightower.
"Henderson State was much more aggressive than us tonight and it caused us a lot of problems," SWOSU Head Coach
Bob Battisti said. "They played aggressive man-to-man defense, which we didn't handle well and our live-ball turnovers led to a lot of points that we couldn't overcome."
The setback ends the Bulldogs four-game winning streak and drops SWOSU to 4-7 (1-4 GAC) on the year ahead of a visit to Bill Vining Arena to face Ouachita on Saturday afternoon.
