ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Bulldog Men's Basketball team went scoreless for the first 6:57 on Saturday and they were unable to overcome a 13-0 deficit as Ouachita handed SWOSU their second straight loss by a score of 80-62.
SWOSU battled back to get within three points on a trio of occasions, but they were unable to get any closer as Ouachita used a late spurt to take a 37-30 lead to the locker room at halftime. The Tigers then hit another burst to open the second half with a 10-3 run, pushing their lead back to 14 points and they never looked back. Ouachita would lead by as much as 22 at 77-55 with 2:07 to play and they finished the game with an 18-point margin.
Devin Pugh led SWOSU in scoring with 13 points on 4-for-12 shooting while also adding a team-high four steals.
Luke Lewallen chipped in 10 points and five rebounds off the bench and the trio of
Markeise Champion,
Geoffery Hightower and
Daniel Eibel scored seven points apiece.
"We played much better today than we did Thursday," SWOSU Head Coach
Bob Battisti said. "Our guys did a lot of good things, we just struggled to get the ball in the basket and didn't make enough shots. We need to go back home this week and regroup to get ready for East Central."
With the setback, SWOSU falls to 4-8 on the year with a 1-5 mark in the Great American Conference. Next up for the Bulldogs is a visit to Ada to face East Central.
