WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Janae Coffee notched her fourth consecutive double-double and
Jennifer Williams scored 20 points off the bench as SWOSU downed Southern Nazarene 88-78 on Saturday afternoon in Route 66 Rivalry action at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
SWOSU was outscored in three of the four quarters of the game, but they did enough damage in the second period to overcome the other three. The Lady Bulldogs held a 26-7 advantage in the second quarter, turning a 22-18 deficit after one period into a 44-29 lead at the break.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs connected on 41.4% of their field goals and their leading scorer,
Hailey Tucker, was limited to just seven points, but Coffee, Williams and
Hayden Priddy carried most of the load offensively by combining to score 58 points. Coffee had a double-double at halftime and finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds while Williams had 20 points and Priddy added 19 along with four assists.
Korina Chapman also chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench, helping SWOSU's bench outscore SNU's 36-to-20.
"When we worked our offense today, we looked really good," Lady Bulldog head coach
Kelsi Musick said postgame. "We have to be able to put that together for four quarters and I think we're getting closer to doing that. I was proud of the effort from our freshmen today and Janae controlled the paint and caused a lot of problems, which is what we need her to do."
SWOSU (15-8, 11-6 GAC) moves into sole possession of third place in the GAC standings with the victory, coupled with a loss by Southern Arkansas on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs head north on Monday to face Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva.
