Carly Zak and Kelsi Schmidtberger Named Bulldogs of the Week

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – A pair of senior SWOSU volleyball players have been awarded the Bulldog of the Week honor after their performances in the GAC Tournament in Hot Springs, Arkansas last week. The award is sponsored by 95.5 'The Coyote' where you can listen to SWOSU Athletics on the radio.

Zak (Wylie, Texas) recorded 18 kills in both the GAC quarterfinal and semifinal matches, finishing the season by posting double-digit kills in every single game the Bulldogs played. Against Arkansas Tech in the quarterfinals, the senior produced a double-double by also digging 13 balls on the night and added two total blocks for her defensive effort as the Dawgs went on to beat the Golden Suns 3-1. The following day against Southeastern in the semifinals, Zak dug nine balls and collected four total blocks in their 3-1 defeat by the Savage Storm that ended the SWOSU season. Following the completion of the tournament, Zak was named to the All-Tournament team for the second-consecutive year. Zak ended the season in first place in the GAC with her 505 kills this year and also ranked first in the conference by averaging 4.28 kills per set. She will also go down as the GAC's all-time leader in kills with her 1,662 she earned in her four years as a Bulldog.

Schmidtberger (Houston, Texas) hit a consistent .296 in both matches in the tournament and posted double-digit kills in each game. The senior collected 10 total blocks in the tournament including three solo that helped the Dawgs defensively. Schmidtberger recorded 23 kills through two matches last week, surpassing the 500 career-kill milestone by six kills in her two years as a Dawg. Her 184 total blocks she had this season ranks her fourth all-time in the SWOSU record book for career blocks, while her .276 career hitting percentage ranks the senior as the second best Bulldog ever in the category.
