WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Lady Bulldog basketball team erased a 17-point first-half deficit and outscored Henderson State 37-26 in the fourth quarter as they picked up their fifth straight victory by a score of 97-87 on Thursday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
SWOSU trailed 26-14 at the end of one quarter and fell behind by 17 at 38-21 with 4:32 to play in the half before the Lady Dawgs got within eight, trailing 43-35 at the break. A strong second half, powered by the defense, lifted SWOSU past the Reddies as they outscored them by 11 in the final quarter after trailing by one, 81-80, after three complete.
Korina Chapman led the charge, finishing with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds along with five blocked shots. She helped the Lady Bulldog set a new Great American Conference single-game record with 16 blocked shots as a team, the most by a team in NCAA Division II this season.
Jennifer Williams was also stellar at the offensive end, scoring 25 points – one off her career high – on 9-of-13 shooting.
"I'm really proud of our effort in the second half," SWOSU's
Kelsi Musick said following the game. "We had different players step up tonight and they were huge for us. I like the intensity we played with in the second half, the team listened and executed accordingly which made good things happen."
The victory improves SWOSU to 6-5 on the year and moves the Lady Bulldogs to 2-3 in Great American Conference play. They look to even their conference record on Saturday afternoon when they host Ouachita Baptist at 1:00 pm in Weatherford.
