WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The SWOSU Women's Basketball team scored 80 or more points for the third straight game and picked up their sixth straight victory, defeating Ouachita Baptist 81-57 on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
After a slow first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs outscored Ouachita 26-10 in the second quarter to break the game open, taking a 45-23 lead to the break. SWOSU was again slow out of the gates in the third quarter, letting the Tigers back within 13 in the waning moments of the period before hitting Ouachita with another run, pushing the lead to 26 on two occasions before settling for the 24-point victory by a score of 81-57.
Hailey Tucker led the Bulldogs with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including five made 3-pointers while also grabbing six rebounds and three steals. Reigning GAC Player of the Week
Jessica Penner chipped in a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Lady Dawgs to a commanding lead of 51-to-33 on the backboards.
Morgan Vogt added 16 points and
Jennifer Williams scored 13 for her second straight game in double figures.
"I thought we played well in the first half and got off to a good start, but relaxed a little bit in the third quarter," SWOSU Head Coach
Kelsi Musick said. "We need to limit our turnovers and play like we did in the first half for 40 minutes, but when we execute the offense and finish on our drives good things will happen."
The Lady Bulldogs improve to 7-5 on the year and even their Great American Conference record at 3-3 with the win, their sixth straight. SWOSU puts their winning streak on the line next Thursday, hosting East Central at 5:30 pm in the final game of their six-game home stand.
