WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Hailey Tucker scored a game-high 24 points, knocking down seven three-pointers to lead the Lady Bulldogs to their seventh straight victory, 65-49 against East Central on Thursday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
SWOSU led for most of the first quarter, taking a 14-12 lead into the second period, which saw East Central build a 23-21 lead heading into the media timeout. Tucker hit back-to-back three-pointers to regain the lead for SWOSU and the Lady Dawgs took a 32-25 lead to the break behind 12 first-half points from Tucker.
The Lady Bulldogs again limited ECU in the second half, holding the Tigers to 27.3% field goal shooting and 24 total points, which was plenty to hold them off for the win. East Central would only get within ten points on two occasions in the second half, with both being met by three-point baskets from SWOSU.
Tucker led SWOSU with 24 points on 8-of-17 field goal shooting, including 7-of-12 shooting from long range, while
Jade Jones finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the winning effort.
Janae Coffee scored nine points and made her presence felt in the paint by grabbing 15 rebounds and blocking five shots.
"I'm really proud of our team for making the proper adjustments and executing the game plan," Head Coach
Kelsi Musick said following the contest. "I like our grit and toughness, but we have to limit our turnovers."
The victory is the seventh straight for SWOSU, including six consecutive victories on their home floor. The Lady Bulldogs, now 8-5 (4-3 GAC) on the year, head on the road Saturday to face Southern Nazarene at 1:00 pm in Bethany.
