Lady Bulldogs Defeat SNU for Eighth Straight Victory

Box Score (html)

BETHANY, Okla. – Jade Jones and Janae Coffee both recorded double-doubles to lead the Lady Bulldogs to their eighth consecutive win, defeating Southern Nazarene 77-65 for a Route 66 Rivalry victory in Bethany on Saturday afternoon.

Hailey Tucker hit three-pointers on two straight possessions as the Lady Bulldogs took a 14-12 lead midway through the first quarter and long range makes from Jade Jones and Morgan Vogt helped SWOSU take a 24-17 lead after one period. The Lady Bulldogs had their lead cut to two in the second quarter before Vogt scored six straight points and Jessica Penner hit a jumper in the final minute that made it 38-32 in favor of SWOSU at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs scored the first seven points of the third quarter and never looked back, outscoring SNU 18-8 to take a 56-40 lead to the fourth quarter. Coffee did all of her damage offensively in the second half, scoring 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting and adding 11 rebounds for her second double-double as a Lady Bulldog.

SWOSU hit 36.3% (29-of-80) of their field goal attempts and connected on 11 three-pointers in the contest, led by Jones who hit a career-best five. Kylie Franz had 11 points and three assists and Vogt had nine points in the win, which is the fifth straight double-figure win by the Lady Bulldogs.

"I didn't like our rebounding in the first half but I thought our energy and effort were much better in the third quarter," Kelsi Musick said after picking up her 99th victory as head coach of the Lady Bulldogs. "I didn't like our mental lapses in the fourth quarter, but we rebounded better in the second half which was big for us."

The eighth straight wins ties for the longest winning streak by SWOSU under Musick and they will look to extend that streak on Monday night with more rivalry action when Northwestern Oklahoma State comes to the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
