WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Jessica Penner came off the bench to record a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds, leading her team to their ninth straight victory 89-50 over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Monday night at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The victory is also the 100th career victory for SWOSU Head Coach
Kelsi Musick, now in her seventh season at the helm of the Lady Bulldog basketball program. Musick becomes the third coach in program history to reach the 100-victory milestone.
SWOSU controlled the game in the paint, outscoring the Rangers 62-18 in the paint and dominating with 25 second chance points as part of a 58-to-41 advantage on the backboards. Penner and
Jennifer Williams, who finished with 16 points, helped the Lady Bulldogs bench outscore Northwestern's reserves 48-to-11.
Hailey Tucker scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds while
Morgan Vogt chipped in 11 points and three rebounds.
Janae Coffee finished one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds while
Jade Jones had six assists and six rebounds to compensate for a low-scoring night.
"I'm so proud of my teams effort and execution tonight, especially in the second half," Musick said after her milestone victory. "We really responded in the second half after we struggled in the second quarter and that was huge for us getting the win."
The ninth straight wins is the longest win streak for SWOSU under Coach Musick and it improves the Lady Bulldogs to 10-5 on the year and 6-3 in the GAC, good for a share of third place in the league standings. SWOSU returns to action on Wednesday night in Durant, facing Southeastern Oklahoma State at 5:30 pm.
