Former Standout Kira Bertrand Returning to Join SWOSU Soccer Staff

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Ahead of his seventh season with the Bulldogs, SWOSU Soccer Coach Mark Persson has announced a three-person coaching staff that will assist him this season that includes a former four-year player, Kira Bertrand. The other members of his staff will include Bruna Da Cas and Kerry Edwards.

Bertrand returns to SWOSU following one year away that saw her play semi-professional soccer in Canada while also having the opportunity to represent Dominica as a member of the Senior Women's National Team. She played for the Bulldogs from 2010-13, finishing her career as a member of back-to-back Great American Conference championship teams. She earned individual acclaim as a three-time GAC Defender of the Year (2011-13) to go along with All-Central Region honors in 2012 and 2013 and two All-GAC Tournament team selections. She will not be alone in her return to western Oklahoma as her sister, Kylee Bertrand, is joining the Bulldogs as a freshman this fall.

The other members of Persson's coaching staff are also very accomplished as Da Cas returns for her third year with the SWOSU Soccer program, which has seen a GAC regular season and conference championship in her time. Edwards comes to Weatherford following a decorated playing career at Dallas Baptist, where she was the Patriots starting goalkeeper for her entire career. She was a four-time All-Heartland Conference selection at DBU and she finished her career ranked second in NCAA Division II history with 51 shutouts and third with more than 8,000 minutes in goal.

Persson, who is SWOSU Soccer's all-time winningest coach, will lead the Bulldogs into his seventh season at the helm on September 4 with a match at Minnesota State-Mankato.
