Cocannouer, Six Others Named to All-OSN Football Team

2015 All-OklahomaSports.Net Football Team (html)

DURANT, Okla. – SWOSU Football head coach Dan Cocannouer received his second Coach of the Year honors this the week as OklahomaSports.Net announced its second annual All-OSN Football Team. Joining Cocannouer on the All-OSN team were First Team All-OSN selections Conner Bays and Trevon Hartfield, while four others were included on the second team. The All-OSN Team is comprised of standouts from the NAIA and NCAA Division II institutions across the state of Oklahoma.

OklahomaSports.Net is the premier Oklahoma-based small-college website, with coverage spanning from Division I to NAIA athletics. The website is owned and operated by Joey McWilliams.

Cocannouer takes home his second Coach of the Year award after directing the third-greatest turnaround in program history. Leading a team that went 3-7 last season, SWOSU improved its record by five wins under the seventh-year head coach in 2015, finishing 8-3 for a share of second place in the Great American Conference. Cocannouer's Bulldogs also received a bid to the 2015 Texarkana Live United Bowl on December 5th, the first postseason bid for SWOSU in the Division II era.

Bays, a junior, earned First Team All-OSN honors for the first time in his career following a breakout season for the Dawgs. The safety from Edmond, Oklahoma, ranked fifth in the GAC, and led the team, with 105 tackles, including a team-best 55 solo tackles, and 5.5 tackles for loss. Bays was second on the team with 10 passes defended, including three interceptions. One of those interceptions was returned 41 yards for a touchdown against Oklahoma Baptist.

Hartfield, a senior, also claimed First Team All-OSN honors for the first time. Hailing from Watonga, Oklahoma, the corner back defended 22 passes to lead the GAC in the category, setting a new program record in the process. He set a single-game record for passes defended against Southeastern Oklahoma State. Hartfield also tallied 64 total tackles, with 50 solo tackles, and also forced two fumbles to go along with his four interceptions.

Karltrell Henderson, a sophomore, picked up Second Team All-OSN honors. A native of Moore, Oklahoma, he rushed for a team-high 776 yards on 196 carries, rushing for 100-plus yards twice. With 11 rushing touchdowns to his name, Henderson owns the second-most rushing TDs in a single season in SWOSU's Division II era. The running back also helped the offense in the passing game, hauling in 20 passes for 235 yards and an additional two touchdowns.

D.J. Jones, a junior, garnered Second Team Al-OSN honors in his debut season with the Bulldogs. The wide receiver from Oakland, California, paced SWOSU's potent aerial attack with 46 receptions for 796 yards and seven touchdowns. His average of 72.4 yards per game was the third-best mark in the GAC this season, and he averaged 17.3 yards per catch. Jones was also a force as a return man, racking up a GAC-leading 1,564 all-purpose yards.

Garrett Luke, a sophomore, was the third Bulldog to be named to the All-OSN Second Team Offense. A native of Willis, Texas, he has started 15 straight games along the offensive line, including 11 straight games as a left tackle this season. He helped anchor a defense that totaled 1,823 yards on the ground and 2,584 yards through the air and tied for the second-fewest sacks allowed with just 14 sacks given up.

Collier Ward, a senior, was named Second Team All-OSN on the defensive side. The defensive end from Bedford, Texas, led the team with 9.5 TFL. His six sacks, all individual efforts, ranked him in the top 10 of the conference. Ward tallied 39 total tackles for the season, with 18 solo tackles, and led a defensive front that ranked fourth in the GAC in rushing defense by permitting 150.0 yards per game.

Since the All-OSN Team's inception last year, the Bulldogs have placed 10 on the honorary squad. SWOSU's team All-OSN honorees have been evenly split among the first and second teams with five apiece to go along with one specialty award winner.
