Setting the Scene
- With wins in five of their last six matches, the SWOSU Volleyball team brings home momentum as they get ready to play six consecutive games on their home court at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center
- SWOSU has a midweek non-conference matchup with Langston on Tuesday night before a trio of home matches over the weekend
- On Friday night, the Bulldogs host Ouachita Baptist before a triangular on Saturday featuring Henderson State and Panhandle State
- Saturday will also be 'Alumni Appreciation Day' for SWOSU Volleyball as they celebrate the first decade of the program's history
 
The Opponents
Langston (4-17)
- Earned their fourth victory of the season in their last match against Jarvis Christian and they are 0-2 against NCAA Division II foes with an earlier loss to SWOSU and Northwestern Oklahoma State
- Led by middle hitter Amber Warren, who has 161 kills (2.30/set) and 54 kills for the year
 
Ouachita Baptist (12-6, 6-3 GAC)
- Tied with SWOSU for fourth in the GAC standings after winning four of their past five matches, including three straight
- Top hitting team in the GAC with a .236 hitting percentage as a team behind Abby Pickett, who leads the conference in hitting (.352) and kills (237)
- Setter Stormi Leonard leads the GAC with 631 assists (11.47/set) and defensive specialist Ashley Wake is third in digs with 312 (5.47/set)
- Tigers have won four of six meetings between the two teams as GAC foes, with four of those matches going to five sets
 
Henderson State (3-18, 2-7 GAC)
- Enter the week off back-to-back conference wins, defeating Southeastern and East Central last week for their first GAC wins of the season
- Ranked 12th in the GAC in both hitting percentage (.075) and opponent hitting percentage (.266)
- Led by Jessie Jacoby and Kaylie Pyles, the reigning GAC Offensive Player of the Week, with 231 and 119 kills, respectively
 
Panhandle State (1-21)
- Enter the triangular on Saturday with a 19-game losing streak, which includes five defeats against Great American Conference foes
- SWOSU holds an 11-0 all-time record against OPSU, the Bulldogs best record against any opponent
 
The Coaches
SWOSU: Josh Collins (46-68, 4th season)
- Named second head volleyball coach in SWOSU history on January 1, 2012
- Has coached six All-GAC selections and one GAC Freshman of the Year in three seasons
- His teams have earned two AVCA Team Academic Awards and one GAC Sportsmanship Award
- Added the duties of Director of Gameday Operations at SWOSU in the fall of 2014.
 
LU: Jacob Rodriguez (4-17, 1st season)
- In his first season at Langston following three seasons at Bacone
 
OUA: Danny Prescott (163-191, 12th season)
- One of the longest tenured coaches in the GAC, now in his 12th season at OBU
- Has five winning seasons as the Tigers head coach, including four in the past five years
 
HSU: Kristee Porter (3-18, 1st season)
- First-year head coach at Henderson State following stints at Colorado and Navorro Junior College
- Four-time All-American as a player at UCLA
 
OPSU: Mike Stephens (22-181, 7th season)
- In his seventh season as head coach of the Aggies
- Previously coached at LeMoyne College and Lamar Community College
 
Checking the Standings
- After a GAC split last weekend, SWOSU is in a three-way tie for third in the conference standings with Ouachita and Harding
 
Last Time Out
- The Bulldogs went 2-1 on their three-game road trip last weekend, defeating Southwestern Christian and Harding while falling in four sets at GAC leader Arkansas Tech
 
SWOSU Notes
- Junior Carly Zak enters the week with 976 career kills, leaving her 24 shy of becoming just the second player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau (Kasandra Gurtner, 1,036)
- Kelsi Schmidtberger put together strong back-to-back performances against Arkansas Tech and Harding with 14 and 12 kills, respectively while hitting above .450 in each match
- Jill Green had her top hitting percentage of the season with 10 kills and just two errors against Harding, good for a .348 hitting clip
- Kaila Lancaster totaled 43 digs last week, moving her past the 1,600-career dig mark. Her current school record total sits at 1,602
- Six different players recorded a service ace on Saturday at Harding as the Bulldogs set a school record for aces in a four-set match
- Zak (six) and Addie Aman (five) each set new career highs for aces against the Bison while Kayla Hebert, DeLayni Fine, Kaila Lancaster and Klemson Lancaster each contributed as well

- SWOSU Volleyball has just six matches left on the schedule after this week, including two home games next week
- The Bulldogs host Southeastern on Thursday and Southwestern Christian on Friday night
