LAWTON, Okla. – The SWOSU Baseball team appeared on their way to a second midweek win over Cameron in three weeks as they took a 5-0 lead in the third inning, but the Aggies scored 11 runs in the final three innings and posted a 15-6 victory on Tuesday.
SWOSU's offense was clicking early as they scored two runs on three hits in the second inning to go on top.
Chris Faulkner led off the inning with a double and scored as
Jaden Chappell singled through the left side.
Dietrick Turney moved Chappell up to third with a single and a Cameron error allowed Chappell to come in and make it 2-0.
Kale Thaxton led off the third inning with a triple and back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Chappell. While he was at the dish, Thaxton scored on a wild pitch and Faulkner and
Tyler Rapp both moved into scoring position. Faulkner scored on an RBI groundout by Chappell while Rapp came across following another Cameron error.
Things seemed good at that point, but Cameron quickly responded with four runs in the third inning to get back in the game. Both teams were held scoreless the next few innings until the Aggies tied the game at 5-5 off a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning.
SWOSU quickly regained the lead when an RBI double from Rapp scored
Jiro Morales from second base, putting SWOSU back up 6-5. That would be the end of the offense for the Bulldogs, however, while Cameron pounded out 10 hits and scored 10 runs in the final two frames to earn the victory.
Chris Joiner started for SWOSU and lasted 6.1 innings before being replaced by
Tyler Hampton. Joiner was tagged with the loss, falling to 1-4 on the year, after allowing six hits and seven runs while also walking five batters.
The Bulldogs are now 20-19 overall for the year with another crucial conference series awaiting this weekend. SWOSU will host Southeastern Oklahoma State for a three-game set at the Athletic Complex, starting Friday at 2 pm.
