Bulldogs Score Season-High 15 Runs to Complete Sweep of Henderson State

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – After winning both games on Friday by allowing just one run, the SWOSU baseball team came out on Saturday and scored a season-high 15 runs on 12 hits against Henderson State, completing the three-game conference sweep of the Reddies with a 15-7 victory.
 
All nine batters in the starting lineup for SWOSU recorded a hit, with eight of them batting in at least one run. Chris Faulkner and Jiro Morales both had three-hit games while Dalton Daniels and Dietrick Turney each had two hits in the effort.
 
Henderson State scored first, plating one in the top of the run to hold a 1-0 lead until SWOSU came to bat in the third. The Bulldogs got four hits in the inning and used several free bases from the Reddies pitchers to score six runs in the inning. Daniels had a two-run single in the inning, JR Head added an RBI double and Kale Thaxton singled to score Head.
 
The Reddies scored once in the fourth inning but SWOSU came back with runs in the fourth and fifth runs to extend the lead to 8-2 before another big inning. SWOSU batted around in the sixth, including four walks, as they scored five more runs to make it 13-4. Jiro Morales came through with a two-run single in the inning while Zack Mang also had an RBI single.
 
SWOSU allowed two runs to Henderson State in the seventh and one in the ninth, but the Bulldogs added two runs on an RBI double from Mang in the bottom of the eighth to ensure plenty of cushion for the pitching staff.
 
Jacob Swigart started and went 4.0 innings to pick up the win after allowing four hits and two earned runs. He walked four and struck out to as he improved to 3-1 on the year. Tyler Hampton and Dillon Wilson combined to give up eight hits and five runs in the next five innings as they closed out the victory.
 
The Bulldogs are riding high as winners of 11 of their last 12 games to improve to 14-8 on the year. SWOSU has also won seven consecutive conference games and at 8-4 they have moved into a share of fourth place in the Great American Conference standings.
 
SWOSU will return to action on Tuesday when they host West Texas A&M for a single game, starting at 2 pm from the Athletic Complex.
