Baseball Runs Win Streak to Four with Sweep of SNU

BETHANY, Okla. – A three-hit shutout and some opportunistic hitting allowed SWOSU baseball to earn a doubleheader and series sweep of Southern Nazarene on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated SNU 8-0 in the opener before hanging on for the 7-5 victory in the night cap.
 
The wins give SWOSU the series sweep of the Crimson Storm and extends their winning streak to four games overall. The win streak has enabled the Bulldogs to even their overall record at 7-7 and to go above .500 in conference play at 5-4. They are now slated to host West Texas A&M on Tuesday and Quincy on Friday and Saturday for a four-game series.

Jacob Swigart and Dillon Wilson combined to allow just three hits in the nine-inning opener on Saturday, completely shutting down the SNU offense. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, got 11 hits and used three Crimson Storm errors to hang up eight runs on the scoreboard and cruise to the win.
 
Four of the top five batters in the lineup had multiple hits and Kale Thaxton scored three of SWOSU's runs to lead the way. Dalton Daniels and Brandon Ruiz each had two hits and scored while Dietrick Turney came across the plate twice for the Bulldogs.
 
Swigart went 6.1 innings, allowing just two hits before Wilson was called on in relief. He earned the win, improving to 1-1 on the year, after striking out nine of the 23 batters he faced.

SWOSU scored in each of the first three innings, but built just a 4-2 lead heading into the final inning. They then used two Crimson Storm errors in the bottom of the seventh to score three runs, giving them enough of a cushion to hold off three runs from SNU in the bottom of the inning.
 
Ethan Davis started and 20 of the 21 outs for SWOSU, giving way to Tyler Hampton for the final out of the game. Davis allowed seven hits and five runs – three earned – while striking out four and earning his second victory of the year and Hampton picked up his second save of the season after striking out the only batter he faced.
 
Daniels had another two-hit game and scored three times for SWOSU while Thaxton had two RBI and Turney scored twice. The Bulldogs had just five hits but managed to use five SNU errors to tack on the seven runs.
