No. 16 Boll Weevils Take First Two from SWOSU Baseball

MONTICELLO, Ark. – There was little offense to be found by the SWOSU baseball team on Saturday against No. 16-ranked Arkansas-Monticello, who swept the Bulldogs by scores of 8-1 and 2-1.

UAM's potent offense got 10 hits in the game and took advantage of two Bulldog errors to score their runs. The Boll Weevils scored three runs in the second inning and scattered their other five over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
 
The Bulldogs got 11 hits in the game, but left eight runners on base and were unable to plate a run until a bases-loaded wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning allowed Dalton Daniels to come home.
 
Jonathan Johnson got the start for SWOSU and lasted 5.0 innings against the Boll Weevils, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while walking four and striking out one. Dillon Wilson tossed the final three innings in relief and gave up three hits and two runs. Johnson took the loss and falls to 1-2 on the year.

Offense was again hard to come by in the second game as the Bulldogs plated just one run off of six hits. Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, Jiro Morales singled to right field to score Brandon Ruiz and give the Bulldogs their only run.
 
The Boll Weevils had already done the damage, scoring two runs on five hits against Ethan Davis, who took the loss and falls to 1-1 on the year. Davis pitched a complete game, allowing two runs while striking out five Boll Weevil batters.
 
 
The team's complete their conference series on Sunday, playing one, nine-inning game starting at noon in Monticello.
