CANYON, Texas – After leading 4-3 in the fifth inning of Tuesday's non-conference action against West Texas A&M, SWOSU allowed one run in both the eighth and ninth innings, allowing the Buffs to come from behind for the 5-4 victory.
 
West Texas jumped on top of SWOSU starter 
Tyler Hampton early, scoring two runs on two hits in the bottom of the first inning. The Bulldogs responded with two runs in the top of the third, when 
Dalton Daniels reached on a throwing error by the Buffs on a play in which 
Dietrick Turney and 
Jaden Chappell both scored.
 
Two walks and a single in the fourth inning helped WT regain a 3-2 lead, one which was short-lived as SWOSU used a double from 
Brandon Ruiz and an RBI single from 
JR Head to take their first lead of the game at 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning.
 
Travis Leverett entered the game in relief of Hampton in the bottom of the fifth and he held the Buffs to four hits and one run over 4.0 innings before being pulled for 
Chris Joiner in the bottom of the ninth.
 
Nick Chapman tripled to lead off the ninth inning for WT and eventually scored the game-winning run on a Dylan Dyson single with one out in the inning. Joiner took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the year, after allowing two hits and one run in 0.1 innings of work.
 
SWOSU, now 2-2 on the season in non-conference play, will play their home opener on Friday afternoon when they host Great American Conference preseason favorite Southern Arkansas in the first of a three-game series. The Bulldogs and Muleriders will play a single game on Friday starting at 2 pm and a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon.
