Dawgs Shutout at Missouri Southern Invitational

JOPLIN, Mo. – The final tournament play of the season came to an end for SWOSU volleyball on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs ended up going winless for the weekend at the Missouri Southern Invitational following a three-set loss to Northwest Missouri State and a four-set defeat at the hands of Pittsburg State.
 
Northwest Missouri State 3, SWOSU 0 (21-25, 15-25, 21-25)

The Northwest Missouri State defense limited SWOSU to just 24 kills in the first match on Saturday as the Bearcats picked up the straight-set victory. SWOSU hit well in the first set, putting down 11 kills against just three errors for a .258 percentage, but offense was tough to find the remainder of the match.
 
Carly Zak led SWOSU with 12 kills in the match and she was the only player for SWOSU to record more than five. Kaila Lancaster had a team-best 11 digs and Brandy Mader had 11 assists for the Bulldogs.
 
Pittsburg State 3, SWOSU 1 (13-25, 18-25, 26-24, 19-25)

After falling behind two sets, SWOSU showed their grit in battling back to win the third set 26-24. The rally was soon ended by Pittsburg State, who took the fourth set 25-19 to end the match.
 
The Gorillas defense was key in their victory as they had four defenders record 10 or more digs, led by Jordan Rehm with 20. PSU finished with 85 digs and 12 blocks for the match as compared to 64 digs and 11 blocks for SWOSU.
 
Zak again led the Bulldogs offense, putting down 21 kills and finishing with a hitting percentage of .280. Alison Cole added seven kills in the match and she finished with nine blocks (five solo, four assist). Lancaster led SWOSU with 12 digs and Mader again finished with a team-best 20 assists.
 
SWOSU returns home on Tuesday (Oct. 15) to face Oklahoma Baptist in non-conference action at 6 pm from Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
