Bulldogs Down Arkansas-Monticello in Four Sets

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Volleyball turned in one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season Thursday afternoon, defeating Arkansas-Monticello 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-13, 25-13) inside the Pioneer Event Center.

The Bulldogs hit .361 for the match, their highest hitting percentage in a four-set contest this season and second-highest overall. SWOSU committed just 16 attack errors on 155 attempts while improving to 13-9 overall and 6-4 in Great American Conference play.

Layla Collins led the offense with 18 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, followed by Katja Blanchat with 15 kills and a .433 clip. Sydnee Winfrey added 14 kills while hitting .440, and Morgan Ritchie rounded out the double-digit contributors with 11 kills.

Mackenzie Sims directed the offense with 46 assists, 15 digs, six kills and three service aces. Jada Permenter anchored the back row with 20 digs and nine assists.

SWOSU took the opening set 25-19 before Arkansas-Monticello responded with a narrow 25-23 victory in the second. The Bulldogs took control after the intermission, jumping ahead 14-7 in the third set and cruising to a 25-13 win.

The fourth set followed a similar script. SWOSU built a 12-4 advantage early and never allowed the Cotton Blossoms back into contention, closing out the match with another 25-13 victory. The Bulldogs hit .515 in the final frame, recording 18 kills with just one attack error on 33 swings.

SWOSU finished with exactly 18 kills in each of the four sets, totaling 72 for the match. That total ranks second in program history, just one shy of the school record established in 2024.

Arkansas-Monticello fell to 2-21 overall and 0-10 in GAC play with the loss.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow, Friday, October 16, when they host Southern Arkansas at 4 p.m. inside the Pioneer Event Center. SWOSU will then welcome Southern Nazarene to Weatherford on Thursday, October 22, at 6 p.m.
