Cophie Anderson has been the lead assistant for the Southwestern Oklahoma State University women’s basketball team since 2009, helping Coach Kelsi Musick perform a tremendous turnaround for the program that has included four NCAA Division II national tournament appearances and back-to-back Great American Conference Regular Season Championships.
Now entering her 11th season at SWOSU in 2019-20, Anderson has helped Musick revive a program with great tradition that had been downtrodden since transitioning to NCAA Division II in 1997. After winning just three games in their first season, the Lady Bulldogs have since notched six 20-win seasons, two Great American Conference Championships (2018, 2019), three GAC Tournament Championships (2012, 2014, 2019) and four NCAA Division II Tournament appearances (2013, 2014, 2018, 2019). The Lady Bulldogs best season came with the memorable 2018-19 campaign, which included a 35-game win streak as SWOSU won their first Central Regional Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship game before finishing as the national runner-up.
The basis of the turnaround came with an exciting brand of basketball that has seen the Lady Bulldogs rank among the top five nationally in scoring and the top ten in 3-point shooting in five of the past six years. Anderson has tutored four players who were named All-Americans and three GAC Players of the Year along with 26 players who have earned all-conference recognition.
Before coming to SWOSU, Anderson worked as a personal trainer for 24-Hour Fitness and also as a rehabilitation therapist in the Dallas-Fort Worth after a successful collegiate playing career at Fresno State University.
Anderson played at FSU for four seasons (2001-05) and was a three-time selection to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) All-Academic team and was selected as one of the school's scholar athletes multiple times. At Fresno, she was a member of a Bulldog team that twice advanced to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), including an appearance in the Elite 8 in 2005.
A native of Arlington, Texas, Anderson (formerly Moore) graduated from Fresno State with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2005. She is married to Wayne Anderson, a former assistant coach for the SWOSU men's basketball team, and the couple has two children, son Cameron and daughter Carrington.
