Dan O'Dowd

Dan O'Dowd enters his fourth season as an assistant coach with the SWOSU Men's Basketball program in 2026-27 after joining head coach Brett Weiberg's staff in the fall of 2023.

During O'Dowd's three seasons at SWOSU, the Bulldogs have qualified for the Great American Conference postseason each year while producing four All-GAC selections, including First Team honoree Ben Smith.

O'Dowd brings nearly four decades of coaching experience to the Bulldog staff, including 25 years at the NCAA Division I level. Prior to SWOSU, he spent six seasons as the head men's basketball coach and assistant athletic director at Bethany College in Kansas from 2017-23.

Before Bethany, O'Dowd held NCAA Division I assistant coaching positions at North Texas, UTSA, Arizona State and Mississippi after beginning his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Kansas State.

O'Dowd spent eight seasons at Arizona State, helping the Sun Devils reach the NCAA Tournament in 2003 and the NIT in 2002 and 2005. At UTSA, he was promoted to associate head coach in 2008 and helped guide the Roadrunners to the 2011 Southland Conference Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. UTSA went on to earn the first NCAA Tournament victory in program history.

O'Dowd also brings nearly 10 years of administrative experience from assistant athletic director roles at Bethany and Barton Community College. He served six years on the NABC International Recruiting Committee while at UTSA.

A native of Lakewood, Colorado, O'Dowd competed in cross country and track at Bethany College before beginning his coaching career with three seasons at Topeka High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Bethany in 1986.
