Carlton Stewart is in his second year with the SWOSU football program and he will coach the Bulldog running backs again in 2015.
Stewart joined the SWOSU coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 2014 and worked with a stable of running backs that combined to average 135.0 yards per game on the ground. The workhorse of the backfield was Second Team All-Great American Conference selection Karl Hodge, who rushed for 980 yards and 11 touchdowns in his senior season.
Stewart spent the 2013 season coaching running backs at Fort Worth Country Day School, the same school that he played at. He led a group of running backs that averaged more than 280 rushing yards per game and helped the Falcons to a winning record.
Prior to his high school coaching, Stewart spent the 2010-11 season as a student assistant coach at TCU where he helped coach the Horned Frog running backs. That season, TCU finished 13-0 to mark the second undefeated season in program history after defeating No. 5 Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. With the victory, the Horned Frogs became the first non-automatic qualifying school to play in and win the Rose Bowl.
Stewart went to TCU following a standout high school career at Fort Worth Country Day School, where he was a three-time all-conference selection and the team’s offensive MVP in 2006. He was also a standout in wrestling, finishing as the state runner-up in 2003.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Stewart earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance & Entrepreneurial Management from TCU in 2011 and he is now working on a master’s degree in Sports Management from SWOSU.
