Alex Wierzbicki enters his second season on the SWOSU Football coaching staff and he will again coach the Bulldogs defensive line in 2016.
In his first season at SWOSU, Wierzbicki helped instruct the Bulldog defense which ranked second in the conference with 30 sacks and third in tackles for loss with 62. SWOSU finished the 2015 season with an 8-4 record, placing second in the Great American Conference to earn a bid to the Live United Texarkana Bowl for the program’s first NCAA postseason appearance.
Wierzbicki came to SWOSU following one season as the defensive line coach at Marietta College, an NCAA Division III institution in Ohio. In his lone season with the Pioneers, Wierzbicki coached one player that earned all-conference status.
As a player, Wierzbicki played for four years at Savannah State University, an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) school in Georgia. He appeared in 22 games for the Tigers from 2010-13 before joining the joining the coaching staff as a student assistant. Wierzbicki was named to the athletic honor roll four times while at Savannah State and he was one of 200 people to be accepted into the NCAA Career Sports Forum.
A native of Beaufort, South Carolina, Wierzbicki earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Savannah State in May 2014. He is now pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Management from SWOSU.
