ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Cross Country opened the 2026 season Saturday morning at the Bob Gravett Invitational, hosted by Ouachita Baptist.
The Bulldogs placed fifth in the six-team field with 99 points while sending a young lineup to the course that featured three freshmen making their collegiate debuts.
Freshman
Brooke Carter led SWOSU across the finish line in her first collegiate race. She completed the 5K course in 19:49.89 to finish 17th overall and 12th among scoring runners.
Daisha Christian was next for the Dawgs in her collegiate debut, clocking a 20:51.76. Sophomores
Emily Nelson and
Canon Russell followed close behind with times of 20:53.95 and 20:58.85, respectively. The trio crossed the finish line within just over seven seconds of one another.
Freshman
Harper Evans rounded out SWOSU's five runners in her first collegiate race with a time of 22:42.55.
Host Ouachita Baptist won the team title with 16 points. Henderson State finished second with 71, followed by Southern Arkansas (86), Texas A&M-Texarkana (94), SWOSU (99) and Wiley (170).
The Bulldogs will have three weeks away from competition before returning to action on Saturday, October 3 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
