FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU Cross Country competed in a large field Saturday at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival, finishing 13th among 22 scoring teams in the Prairie Fire Pepper 5K.
More than 220 runners took part in the race, with Brooke Carter leading the Bulldogs through the field. Carter crossed the finish line 27th overall in 19:18.4, improving by more than 30 seconds from SWOSU's season-opening 5K. Her time was also the fastest 5K ever recorded by a SWOSU runner at the Chile Pepper Festival.
Behind Carter, SWOSU's next four scoring runners crossed within a 25-second window. Anna Holt was second across for the Dawgs, followed by Daisha Christian, Canon Russell and Harper Evans. Evans made the biggest jump among Bulldogs who competed in both 5K races this season, shaving more than a minute off her season-opening mark.
SWOSU finished with 394 points, while its five scoring runners combined for a time of 1:44:15 and averaged 20:51 across the 5K course.
