WEATHERFORD – A late equalizer in the 87th minute helped SWOSU Soccer salvage a 2-2 draw against Colorado Christian in its 2026 season opener.
Both teams scored quickly to open the year, with the Cougars opening the scoring in the eighth minute on Alexis Byrd's first goal of the afternoon. Just 30 seconds later, the Dawgs knotted the game at 1-1 after Sarahi Delgadillo scored the first goal of her career with the Bulldogs.
Both goals were eerily similar, with each coming off a broken play as a group of players battled for possession in front of the goal. In both instances, the goalkeeper came off the line, with the ball eventually finding its way into the back of the net.
Early in the second half, the Dawgs found themselves trailing once again after Byrd scored her second goal of the day, beating the SWOSU back line for the score. Just four minutes later, Delgadillo was sent off after receiving her second yellow card following a hard tackle, forcing the Dawgs to play the remaining 25 minutes a player down.
Despite playing 10 v 11 for a large portion of the second half, the Dawgs stayed within striking distance, and their chance came with just three minutes remaining. First-year player Kinsey Geasland netted the game-tying goal to secure the draw for the Bulldogs.
The Dawgs outshot the Cougars 16-9, with SWOSU putting 10 shots on goal. Braelee Epp recorded three shots, all of which were on target, but was unable to find the back of the net in her first game of her second season with the Dawgs.
SWOSU will now travel to Austin, Texas, to face St. Edward's on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for their first road action of the season.
