ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Softball was winless in Friday's road doubleheader against Henderson State, falling 5-4 and 4-1 to the Reddies.
The series concludes Saturday at noon, where the Bulldogs will look to salvage the series and avoid a sweep.
Game One
HSU 5, SWOSU 4
The Reddies plated single runs in each of the first four innings and added the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth to take the opener.
Trailing 4-1, SWOSU loaded the bases to start the sixth and tied the game with a bases-loaded walk from
Sierra Woods and RBI hits from
Kennedi Caine and
Maddie Rahon.
An ensuing leadoff hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the sixth came back to haunt the Dawgs, as the runner advanced on a sacrifice and later scored on an RBI hit.
SWOSU outhit the Reddies 11-8, but four errors proved costly as HSU scored four unearned runs.
Rahon and
Riley Lusk each had two hits to lead the offense, with Lusk doubling and scoring twice.
Game Two
HSU 4, SWOSU 1
The Bulldogs managed just one run in the nightcap, coming on a
Sierra Woods RBI single in the fifth, as Henderson State built an early lead and held on.
HSU scored twice in the first inning and added solo home runs in the third and sixth.
Trailing 3-1 after Woods' hit in the fifth, SWOSU had the tying run on base with two outs but could not capitalize. The Bulldogs later stranded the bases loaded in their final at-bat.
SWOSU was outhit 8-5, with all five hits coming as singles. Woods accounted for three of them.
