ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Softball used a six-run third inning to secure a 6-5 win over Henderson State in Saturday's series finale, salvaging the road series.
All six Bulldog runs came in the decisive third inning, where SWOSU recorded eight of its 10 hits in the game. Entering the frame in a scoreless tie, the Dawgs erupted before the Reddies could record an out. Leading 2-0,
Jaylynn Freer delivered the biggest swing of the inning with a three-RBI triple to extend the advantage.
Taylor McMahon followed with an RBI single to cap the scoring.
Henderson State responded with a run in the third and four more in the fourth to cut the deficit to one. With two outs in the fourth,
Alexis Taylor entered in relief and recorded the final out of the inning before taking over in the circle.
Taylor was dominant the rest of the way, tossing 3.1 hitless innings to earn the win. She struck out five and walked two, keeping Henderson State off the board after entering. She relieved
Blaire Gentry, who started and pitched 3.2 innings.
SWOSU outhit Henderson State 10-8.
Maddie Rahon led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
Sierra Woods also added two hits and a run.
With the win, SWOSU heads into the final two weekends of the regular season looking to build momentum. The Bulldogs travel to face Northwestern in Alva next weekend before returning home to host Arkansas Tech to close the regular season.
