BETHANY – SWOSU Softball was shut out in the series rubber match with SNU on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0.
The Dawgs managed just three hits on the day, tied for their second-lowest total of the season. SWOSU's best chance to score came in the first inning as they had two on with no outs thanks to a walk and a single just two batters in. They would reach second and third with two outs but were unable to cross the plate after a flyout ended the top half of the inning.
SNU added its runs one at a time, scoring once in the second with an insurance run in the fourth. The Crimson Storm totaled eight hits on the day. SNU pitched its ace in games one and three of the weekend series, and in those games she went all 14 innings, allowing a total of seven hits and one run while striking out 14.
Emily Wedel,
Maddie Rahon, and
Landry Bayless recorded the hits for SWOSU. In the circle,
Jaycee McKee and
Lily Barfield each saw three innings of action. Both allowed four hits and one run, with Barfield striking out four.
The Dawgs will quickly return to the diamond for a non-conference midweek matchup with Fort Hays State on Tuesday in Hays, Kan., with a doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
