Run-Rule Win Highlights Split at Fort Hays State

FORT HAYS, Kan. – SWOSU Softball split Tuesday's midweek doubleheader against Fort Hays State, run-ruling the Tigers 9-0 in the opener before falling 7-3 in the second game.

SWOSU returns home this weekend for its second home series of the season, as Arkansas-Monticello visits Weatherford for a Friday–Saturday set.

Game One (5 inn.)
SWOSU 9, FHSU 0

Josie Oakley's five RBI and a three-hit shutout from Alexis Taylor highlighted the win. SWOSU grabbed early momentum with single runs in the first and second innings before a big offensive push in the fourth and fifth put the game away.

Oakley broke things open in the fourth with a three-run home run to left field, extending SWOSU's 2-0 lead to 5-0. She added a two-RBI double in the fifth to trigger the run rule.

Taylor scattered three singles and struck out seven in the complete-game effort. Oakley finished 2-for-3 with a walk, while Maddie Rahon also went 2-for-3 and added an RBI double in the second inning.

Game Two
FHSU 7, SWOSU 3

Skyla McPhillips powered the Bulldog offense early, giving SWOSU a 3-1 lead through three and a half innings.

McPhillips went 2-for-3, driving in two runs with a first-inning double and adding an RBI single in the third to account for all of SWOSU's scoring.

Fort Hays State tied the game in the fourth on a two-run home run before taking control in the fifth. With two outs, the Tigers scored four runs — all unearned — to grab the lead for good. The go-ahead run came on a single before a three-run home run extended the margin to the final 7-3 score.

Blaire Gentry was charged with the loss, while Lily Barfield recorded the final four outs in relief.
