WICHITA, Kan. – SWOSU Softball picked up a doubleheader sweep over Newman on Tuesday, winning both matchups to conclude its non-conference schedule.
The Bulldogs have now won four of their last five and six of their last nine heading into a road series against No. 7-ranked Southern Arkansas this weekend.
Game One
SWOSU 8, Newman 6
SWOSU trailed 5-1 after two innings before plating seven runs across the third, fourth, and fifth innings to rally past the Jets in game one.
Back-to-back singles in the third sparked the comeback as the Bulldogs scored three runs in the inning.
Kennedi Caine drove in
Taylor McMahon in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. In the fifth,
Riley Lusk delivered the decisive blow with a three-run home run — her second of the season — to cap the scoring.
Lily Barfield earned the win after pitching into the fifth inning, striking out a season-high six.
Blaire Gentry closed the door with three hitless innings, recording the final nine outs to secure the save.
Game Two
SWOSU 13, Newman 4
A six-run seventh inning put the game out of reach in the nightcap. SWOSU entered the frame leading 7-4 before erupting for five hits and sending the entire lineup to the plate.
Blaire Gentry picked up her second save of the day, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing three hits.
Alexis Taylor was credited with the win after working one inning in relief, while
Jaycee McKee started and pitched the first three innings.
SWOSU's 15 hits marked a new season high. Every player in the starting lineup recorded a hit, with five Bulldogs finishing with multiple hits.
Maddie Rahon,
Skyla McPhillips, and
Emily Wedel each went 2-for-5 and combined for nine RBI.
