ADA, Okla. – The Bulldogs were on the wrong side of a walk-off in Ada on Tuesday afternoon as ECU scored the final run in a 15-14 high-scoring midweek affair.
SWOSU (14-10, 6-6 GAC) will be back on the diamond for a weekend series against Arkansas-Monticello on March 13 at 3:00 p.m. for a doubleheader before closing out the series on Saturday.
The Tigers got off to a quick start, riding momentum from a walk-off grand slam win over Oklahoma Baptist the day before. They scored five runs in the bottom of the first on four hits. The Dawgs got two back in the top of the second, but four more runs by ECU by the fourth lifted the home team to a 9-2 advantage.
The Bulldogs' offense came to life in the fifth, scoring three runs thanks to two hits, a walk, and a couple of wild pitches. They added one more in the sixth before completing the comeback in the seventh, scoring five runs on three hits. One of those was a leadoff home run by
Landon Meyer, the lone bomb of the game, giving SWOSU an 11-9 lead after the top half of the inning.
ECU responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead. The Dawgs again rose to the challenge and scored three more in the next half inning to take the lead back. However, ECU answered once more, tying the game at 14 with two runs of its own to send the game to the ninth. After the Bulldogs were held off the board for the first time since the fourth inning, ECU pushed one run across in the bottom of the ninth to end the game, winning 15-14.
Six Dawgs had multi hit games, with catcher
Rusty Wortman having a team high three hits with a double.
