LOS LUNAS, N.M. – SWOSU Softball closed out its opening weekend Sunday with an 8-0 loss to No. 8-ranked West Texas A&M.
It marked the second loss to the Lady Buffs in as many days after SWOSU faced WT in Saturday's nightcap. West Texas A&M set the tone early, scoring four runs in its first at-bat, highlighted by a three-run home run. The Lady Buffs added single runs in each inning from the third through the sixth to trigger the eight-run rule in the sixth inning.
SWOSU's best scoring opportunity came in the top of the second inning, when the Bulldogs loaded the bases but were unable to push a run across.
Maddie Rahon led the SWOSU lineup with a pair of hits, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.
Lily Barfield took the loss in the circle, working one inning.
Alexis Taylor tossed three innings in relief, and
Jaycee McKee also saw action out of the bullpen.
With the opening weekend complete, SWOSU will turn its attention to the Rogers State Festival next weekend in Claremore, Oklahoma. The Bulldogs will compete in the round-robin tournament Saturday and Sunday, February 7-8.
