Taylor’s One-Hitter Highlights SWOSU’s Saturday Split

CLAREMORE, Okla. – SWOSU sophomore pitcher Alexis Taylor tossed a complete-game one-hitter in a 1-0 win over Upper Iowa on Saturday, highlighting a split for the Bulldogs after a 7-6 loss to Midwestern State later in the day.

Against MSU, SWOSU had the game-tying run stranded at third base in the final inning before running out of outs. The victory over Upper Iowa also marked the first career win for head coach Cheyenne Mahy.

SWOSU will face Midwestern State again Sunday at 4:00 p.m. before closing out the weekend immediately after against No. 18-ranked Rogers State.

Game One
SWOSU 1, Upper Iowa 0

Taylor was dominant in the opener, throwing six shutout innings while striking out 10 and walking three. She allowed just one hit and kept the Peacocks off the scoreboard throughout. It was the first complete game shutout of her career.

Landry Bayless supplied the lone offense of the game, blasting her first home run of the season with two outs in the third inning. SWOSU finished with six hits in the contest, led by Kennedi Caine who went 2-for-3. Riley Lusk added a double in the sixth.

Game Two
Midwestern State 7, SWOSU 6

Maddie Rahon paced the Bulldog offense in the nightcap, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 with a grand slam and a double. Her grand slam came in the fifth inning and sparked a comeback attempt after Midwestern State scored the game's first seven runs and led 7-0 after two innings.

SWOSU got on the board in the third inning with an unearned run before Rahon's blast pulled the Bulldogs within two at 7-5 in the fifth. SWOSU stranded two runners in the sixth inning and left the tying run 60 feet away in the seventh.

Both teams finished with double-digit hits, with SWOSU holding an 11-10 edge.

Jaycee McKee provided effective relief in the circle after entering during a difficult second inning. Blaire Gentry (L, 0-2) took the loss in her second start of the season.
