Bulldogs Fall to Muleriders in Magnolia

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Bulldogs dropped their second straight game, as a hot start from Ty Frierson was not enough to keep pace with the Muleriders.

SWOSU now sits at 5-10 overall and 2-7 in conference play. The Bulldogs will look to split the Arkansas trip on Saturday when they travel to face Arkansas-Monticello at 3:00 pm.

Frierson opened the scoring for the Dawgs with a step back three and finished the first half with 14 points on 5-9 shooting. The rest of the Bulldogs combined for 11 points on 5-18 shooting. Despite that, SWOSU held a 21-19 lead with six minutes remaining in the first half before SAU closed the half on a 21-4 run, capped by a 35-foot buzzer beater to give the Muleriders a 45-25 lead heading into the break.

The Bulldogs were never able to close the gap in the second half, with the game staying separate by at least 13 points the entire way.

Frierson led the way with his 14 first half points while Tucker Shepherd added 10 points. Elijah Jordan grabbed a team high seven rebounds in his first game action since Harding over a month ago.

SWOSU shot 34.5% from the field, the second lowest of the season and went just 4-25 from beyond the three-point line. SAU shot 48.1% and 38.9% from deep. Turnovers were deadlocked at 13 on each side; SAU grabbed 10 more rebounds than the Bulldogs.
