SWOSU Football continues its search for its first win of the 2025 season on Saturday evening, traveling to face Southeastern Oklahoma State. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. inside Paul Laird Field at Spend Life Wisely Stadium.
After opening the year with back-to-back Thursday night contests, the Bulldogs benefit from a longer week of preparation following last week's loss to No. 2 Harding. SWOSU has dropped its last four meetings with Southeastern and six of the last seven overall, though the Bulldogs did earn a 35-17 victory in Durant during the 2019 season.
Since joining the GAC, SWOSU is 3-5 against Southeastern on the road. The Savage Storm hold a 52-37-3 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1920s.Â
Offensively, the Bulldogs are led on the ground by Red Martel, who is averaging 5.7 yards per carry through two games. Quarterback MJ Rivers paced SWOSU with 59 rushing yards on 15 attempts against Harding and has completed 26-of-39 passes for 149 yards this season. Running back Malik Roberson has accounted for the Bulldogs' lone touchdown, a 10-yard rush in the opener against Arkansas Tech, while also recording the team's longest run by a back (27 yards). Backup quarterback Chandler Galban owns the team's longest rush of the year with a 33-yard keeper, also against Tech.
On defense, Kelton Moore leads SWOSU with 12 total tackles (nine solo, three assisted) along with a pass breakup. Felipe Tristan follows with 10 tackles and, along with Matthew Myles, shares the team lead with 2.5 tackles for loss. Despite recording seven quarterback hurries through two weeks, the Bulldogs are still in search of their first sack of the season.
Southeastern (1-1) enters week three with the GAC's fifth-ranked scoring offense, averaging 32.5 points per game. The Storm defeated Arkansas–Monticello 44-13 in their opener before falling 41-21 at Ouachita Baptist last week. They average 381.5 yards of total offense, balanced between 195.5 rushing and 186 passing per game. Southeastern has converted 14-of-29 third downs (48%), ranking third in the league, and leads the GAC in time of possession at 37:05 per game.
Defensively, the Storm rank second in the league by holding opponents to just 15 first downs per game. They are one of only two GAC teams allowing fewer than 100 rushing yards per contest (3.4 yards per carry). Against the pass, however, Southeastern has struggled, giving up more yards through the air than any team except Oklahoma Baptist, and allowing opponents to average 8.5 yards per completion.
