WEATHERFORD -- SWOSU Soccer picked up its third straight win to open the season, rallying from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat Newman 5-2 in Thursday's home opener.
The five-goal outburst marked the Bulldogs' highest scoring performance since October 13, 2022, and the 3-0 start is their best since the 2012 season.
The opening 15 minutes weren't what the Dawgs envisioned for their first home game of the year. Newman's Delphine Sosu netted two quick goals, putting SWOSU behind for the first time this season.
Braelee Epp jump started the comeback in the 19th minute with her second goal of the season, assisted by
Elise LaForge—her first of two assists on the afternoon.
Still trailing at halftime, the Dawgs came out inspired after a fiery speech from Head Coach
Mark Persson. Senior
Ruth Vasquez scored her first of two goals to tie the game, assisted by
Saoirse Hourigan. Just seven minutes later, Vasquez returned the favor, assisting on Hourigan's strike to give SWOSU its first lead.
The Bulldogs added two more insurance goals in the final 20 minutes.
Philippine de Sancy netted her first of the season, and Vasquez capped the afternoon with her second goal, assisted by Epp.
SWOSU dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Newman 27-12 with an 18-5 edge in shots on goal.
The Dawgs will return home Sunday at 2:00 PM to host Missouri Southern, looking to remain undefeated through the opening two weeks of play.
