WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Softball won their first game via run rule of the season thanks to two big innings that led the way for a 9-1 victory over SNU in the series finale on Sunday.
The Bulldogs (10-11, 3-6 GAC) will jump right back into action when they host rival Northwestern on Tuesday for a midweek conference doubleheader, with game one scheduled for a 2:00 pm first pitch.
Alexis Taylor (W, 7-5) threw all five innings, producing a near-perfect outing. She allowed only four hits and zero earned runs while striking out three with no walks to her name.
After going down 1-0 after one, the Bulldogs exploded for five runs in the second.
Katie Boline opened the inning with a triple, and
Riley Lusk tied the game with a single that brought the run in.
Skyla McPhillips doubled to set two runners in scoring position, and a
Taylor McMahon double brought both runs in.
Chesnie Hewitt and
Kaylee Barkley both added singles that scored a run each time, extending the lead to 5-1.
The fifth opened with two walks and an error that scored
Emily Wedel, who came in to pinch run for Lusk. With two outs, McMahon singled to center to score McPhillips, and
Jadyn Hook took a pitch to the head to take a free base. This set up a Hewitt bases-clearing triple to end the game with a 9-1 final.
McMahon and Hewitt both had two hits and three RBIs to their name.
