WEATHERFORD - SWOSU Softball was on the wrong side of two big innings that saw the Bulldogs drop two conference games to Northwestern on Tuesday.
Â
The Dawgs (10-13, 3-8 GAC) will now travel to the Natural State to face Arkansas-Monticello in a GAC series this weekend, starting March 14 at 2:00 pm.
Â
Game One
SWOSU 6, NWOSU 8
Â
SWOSU created a 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings, but Northwestern's bats caught fire as they had five hits in their half of the sixth, two of which that exited the park, to score eight runs and double up the Dawgs in just one inning.
Â
The Bulldogs tried to make a run in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, they scored on a two-run double by
Taylor McMahon. Now with runners on second and third, down by just two, there was life for SWOSU, but a fly out ended any chance of a comeback.
Â
Jaycee McKee (L, 1-3) took the loss after pitching only 0.2 innings and allowing two hits, two walks, and four earned runs.
Alexis Taylor started and finished the game for SWOSU, pitching a total of 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out five.
Â
Skyla McPhillips went 3-4 from the plate with an RBI, and
Riley Lusk hit a solo homer in the fourth.
Â
Game Two
SWOSU 4, NWOSU 10
Â
The score favored SWOSU after three, 3-2, but after an opening out in the top of the fourth due to NWOSU batting out of order, they exploded for six runs, including a three-run home run, to take a commanding 8-3 lead that would be enough to stay ahead of the Bulldogs.
Â
Katie Boline went 3-3 with one RBI,
Kaylee Barkley hit 2-3 with two RBIs, and
Jadyn Hook went 2-4 with a triple.
Â
Lusk (L, 0-3) threw for 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits and eight earned runs with three strikeouts.
Hannah Nieuwenhuis came in relief, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing eight hits but only two earned runs.
