BETHANY, Okla. – The Bulldogs clinched their first GAC series win after sweeping Friday's doubleheader against Southern Nazarene. SWOSU outhit SNU 24-9 over the two games to help earn the two wins.
The two teams will close out their series on Sunday at 1:00 pm. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday before incoming weather delayed the game one day.
A balanced attack led the way for a win in game one, with seven players having an RBI to their name.
Sean Monsour,
Bodi Wallar, and
Campbell Sullivan all had a team-high two RBIs, with Wallar and Sullivan both going 4-5 on the day. Monsour and Wallar both hit a home run.
After SNU cut the lead to 3-2 after the third inning, SWOSU responded with six combined runs over the fourth and fifth innings to suffocate the Crimson Storm. In those innings, the Dawgs had eight hits, four being for multiple bases.
Josh Doelitsch (W, 2-1) collected the win after throwing 5.1 innings and allowing four earned runs while striking out six.
Ayden Page (S, 1) earned his first save of the year while pitching 3.2 innings and giving up only one hit and zero runs.
In a low-scoring game, SWOSU came out on top after a two-run fifth inning gave them a lead they would hold onto to close out the game.
After the second inning, the game remained even until the top of the fifth. With two outs,
Campbell Sullivan reached first on an error, and then back-to-back walks loaded the bases for
Ty Eastwood. Eastwood capitalized on the home team's mistake and hit a single to right center to bring in
Eric Foufoulas and Sullivan for the winning runs.
SWOSU had to find a way to win on the defensive side of the plate, committing no errors through the seven innings. It was the Bulldogs' sixth time this year having no errors, and they are 5-1 in those games.
