WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Men's Basketball picked up a much-needed win over Ouachita Baptist to snap a four-game skid in a tightly contested 70-66 win, moving to 7-2 inside the friendly confines of the Pioneer Event Center this season.
The first half saw SWOSU build a six-point, 38-32 lead going into the break. Ouachita's top offense only knocked down nine buckets in the first half and committed five turnovers. The Bulldogs went 13-29 (44.8%) from the field while making six three-pointers. Denali Alexander hit a last second three-pointer to cap his team high nine-point half for the Dawgs.
Inside the final 20 minutes, SWOSU never trailed the Tigers but could not grow their lead past six points at any point. With 3:42 left to play in the game, the Dawgs found themselves tied at 61-61 before rattling off five straight points to create the separation needed to close out the game.
Final numbers had SWOSU shooting 25-56 (44.6%) and 8-25 (32%) from three-point land while knocking down 12-14 free throws (85.7%). The Tigers went 23-60 (38.3%) and 6-19 (31.6%) from beyond the arc and 14-20 (70%) from the line. The Bulldog defense limited Ouachita to 66 points on the night – their second lowest mark of the year.
Elijah Williams and MJ Warrior led the way with 11 points each with Warrior dishing out eight assists. Eli Al-Debaran and Kray Rogers each added nine points while Rogers grabbed a season high eight rebounds.
SWOSU (9-11, 6-9 GAC) will look to make it two in a row when they host Henderson State in an early 1:00 pm tipoff inside the PEC on Saturday.
