Bulldogs Fall in Series Finale

SEARCY, Ark. – The Bulldogs scored first for a second straight game but could not keep pace with Harding in a 10-2 loss on Monday in the series finale.

SWOSU goes winless in the first road series of the year, dropping to 8-5 overall on the year and to 1-4 in conference play.

The Dawgs originally led 1-0 in the fourth inning after Reece Burke singled in Gage Gaunt, who was on second base following a failed pickoff attempt after he singled with one out.

Harding immediately answered in the bottom half of the fourth with an RBI double to tie, and a two-RBI single to take the lead. It began a stretch of innings that saw the Bisons tack on crooked numbers in three of the next four frames, 3-3-0-4. They managed just one hit through the first three innings, before piling on 10 more through the end of the game.

SWOSU got another run in the eight when Ty Eastwood singled in Rusty Wortman who also reached on a hit.

The Dawgs were outhit 12-6 on the afternoon, with six different hitters in the lineup all singling in the contest. The lineup struck out 10 times in the game and went 1-for-9 to leadoff innings.

Josh Doelitsch (L, 1-1) threw 4.0 innings in his start. Harding finally broke through on him in his final inning with the three-run fourth.

Garrett Coiner (1.0 IP), Greg Ross (2.0 IP), and Jackson Blue (1.0 IP) all pitched in relief. Blue threw a scoreless eighth as the lone SWOSU arm to not surrender a run.

With no scheduled midweek contest this week, the Dawgs will prepare to play at home again this weekend with more conference play. Oklahoma Baptist will visit Weatherford beginning Friday (Feb. 28) with game one of the series.
