Bulldogs Win Fifth Straight; Beat Oklahoma Baptist in Four

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Volleyball extended its winning streak to five matches Tuesday night, defeating Oklahoma Baptist 3-1 inside the Pioneer Event Center.

The Bulldogs (12-13, 10-3 GAC) used a balanced attack with four players in double-figure kills and held the Bison to their lowest hitting percentage of the season.

SWOSU set the tone early, recording seven blocks in the opening set to cruise to a dominant win. OBU committed 14 errors in the frame and was held to -.071 hitting. The Bulldogs followed with another strong showing in the second, posting 19 kills while limiting the Bison to just .022 hitting to take a 2-0 lead.

OBU avoided the sweep with a convincing third-set win behind a .361 hitting mark and multiple scoring runs. In the fourth, the Bison scored the first two points before SWOSU answered with seven of the next eight to grab control and close out the match from in front.

Hailey Smith, Paris Patterson, Sydnee Winfrey, and Jenna Houk each reached double figures in kills. Smith, Patterson, and Winfrey tallied 12 apiece, while Houk finished with 11 kills and a team-high 20 digs for her third double-double of the season. Patterson also added 11 digs.

At the net, SWOSU totaled 11 blocks, led by Katja Blanchat's five. Setter Mackenzie Sims dished out a season-high 41 assists and added 17 digs, also a season best.

As a team, the Bulldogs hit .175 overall and .257 in the deciding fourth set.

SWOSU now turns its attention to Thursday's road matchup at East Central, where the Tigers are 6-1 at home this season. The regular season wraps up next week with Senior Night against Southeastern (Nov. 11) and the finale at Northwestern (Nov. 13).
