WEATHERFORD – SWOSU swept past Northwestern on Thursday, downing the Rangers 25-20, 25-15, and 25-13 to move to 3-1 in Great American Conference play.
After a competitive opening set that went the Bulldogs' way, SWOSU settled in and controlled the next two frames to secure its third sweep in league play. The Dawgs tallied 41 kills compared to just 23 for Northwestern while forcing the Rangers into 24 errors and negative hitting on the night.
The opener featured seven ties and two lead changes, but SWOSU pulled away after a 15-15 deadlock with three scoring bursts to close it out. In the second, the Bulldogs broke open a tight frame during the middle stretch, highlighted by a six-point run that pushed their lead from 17-12 to 23-12 before putting the set to bed. The finale left no doubt, as SWOSU jumped out 16-3 and coasted to the sweep.
No Bulldog reached double-digit kills, but Hailey Smith and Jenna Houk paced the offense with nine apiece, combining for just four errors. Smith also added four blocks. As a team, SWOSU totaled 10 blocks—its 10th double-digit block outing this season and its third-highest in a three-set match. Katja Blanchat anchored the Bulldog block, recording a match-high seven blocks while adding six kills with just two errors.
Setter Cameron Turner dished out 27 assists and chipped in four kills, while libero Jada Permenter collected 20 digs—tying her career-high in a three-set match.
Now 5-10 overall and 3-1 in conference play, the Bulldogs return home Monday (Oct. 6) to face Southern Nazarene before heading to Arkansas for matches against Ouachita (Thursday) and Henderson State (Friday).
