SWOSU Football will look to extend its win streak to three when Henderson State (3-1) comes to Weatherford on Saturday for the Flex-Chem Classic.

The Bulldogs are riding momentum after back-to-back wins, first on the road at Southeastern and then at home last week with a 38-24 victory over Oklahoma Baptist. That win was powered by a massive rushing performance as the Dawgs piled up 388 yards on the ground, tying their GAC single-game record.

Henderson State entered last week ranked No. 24 nationally but suffered its first loss of the season in a 24-21 setback against Southern Arkansas. The Reddies slipped out of the Top 25 but remain receiving votes in the AFCA poll.

Historically, SWOSU has struggled against Henderson State. Since 2011, the Dawgs are just 2-11 in the series, with both wins coming on the road. Henderson has taken all seven matchups played in Weatherford and holds a five-game win streak overall.

On SWOSU's Side

The Bulldogs boast the second-ranked rushing attack in the GAC (19th nationally) at 218.8 yards per game, trailing only Harding, who leads the country by more than 70 yards at 419.8. Last week's 388-yard explosion against OBU featured four different players with double-digit carries, a first for SWOSU in its Division II era.

Quarterback MJ Rivers led the charge with 117 rushing yards, becoming the first Bulldog QB to top 100 yards on the ground since Reade Box ran for 149 against Tarleton State on November 8, 2003. Red Martel continues to pace the team at 85.8 yards per game (fifth in the GAC), while Rivers chips in 53.5 per contest.

The passing game averages 103.5 yards per outing, ranking 10th in the league. The top targets so far: Baylor Nash: 111 yards on five catches, Isaac Noris: 106 yards on nine catches, Elijah Reed: team-high 14 receptions for 82 yards, Bodie Boydstun: six catches for 67 yards. Each of those four has found the end zone once this season.

Defensively, the Dawgs are allowing 166.3 passing yards per game, fourth in the conference. They've given up five passing touchdowns but also snagged five interceptions, two of which were returned for scores—including Zack Roberts' Pick-Six against OBU. Roberts, the reigning GAC Defensive Player of the Week, leads the team with 25 tackles.

Against the run, SWOSU ranks 11th in the league at 220.8 yards per game. But that number is heavily skewed by Harding's 436-yard outing; in the other three games, the Dawgs have allowed just 151 per game, which would rank fifth in the GAC.

After going sackless through the first three weeks, the Dawgs erupted for fiveagainst OBU, including two from Cameron Guyton, who is now top 10 in the conference in sacks.

Scouting the Reddies

Henderson State brings one of the most potent offenses in the nation, averaging 467.8 yards per game (sixth nationally). That includes 300 passing yards per contest, ranking 12th in the country and tops in the GAC.

Quarterback Andrew Edwards has been the catalyst, recording at least two passing touchdowns in every game this year. In Week 3 against Arkansas-Monticello, he accomplished a rare feat with a passing, rushing, and receiving touchdown in the same game, earning GAC Offensive Player of the Week honors as just the second player in league history to do so.

His top target is Maddox Davis, the GAC's leading receiver with 21 catches for 308 yards (77.0 per game) and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Henderson ranks third in the conference in scoring defense (17.3 PPG) and fourth in total defense (321.5 YPG). They're especially strong against the run, giving up just 130.3 yards per game, but their pass defense sits seventh in the league at 191.3. That could present an opening for SWOSU's passing game.

The Reddies are also efficient in key situations: top three in the GAC in first downs (86), third-down conversions (50%), and fourth-down conversions (67%). Their Achilles heel comes in discipline, as they average a league-high 79.5 penalty yards per game, one of the worst marks nationally.
