WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Volleyball collected a big bounce-back victory on Friday, sweeping Harding to close out another busy week of action.
The win came less than 24 hours after a 3-1 setback to Arkansas Tech. SWOSU returned to the win column at home after that rare stumble against Tech. The Bulldogs haven't dropped consecutive home matches since 2016 — and it's been since 2014 since back-to-back home conference losses.
On Friday, the Dawgs' defense set the tone early and held firm throughout, limiting Harding to a .014 hitting percentage — its lowest mark of the season. The Lady Bisons finished with more errors than kills in each of the first two sets.
SWOSU came out firing, opening the match on a 5-0 run and cruising to a 25-10 first-set win behind 13 kills and just one error (.400).
That offensive efficiency cooled slightly in the second, but the Bulldogs remained in control after pulling away from an 8-8 tie. Leading 18-15, SWOSU strung together four straight points to open the gap and take a commanding two-set lead.
Harding didn't go quietly in the third, jumping out to a 14-5 lead before SWOSU flipped the momentum. Trailing 17-8, the Dawgs rattled off nine of the next ten points to close within one. Down 24-23, SWOSU staved off set point and finished with three straight to steal the set — and the sweep.
SWOSU finished the night hitting .176 as a team. Paris Patterson led the attack with a double-double of 11 kills and a team-high 18 digs. Hailey Smith matched Patterson's kill total and added three blocks, with both hitters finishing above .300.
Mackenzie Sims totaled 31 assists, while Jada Permenter followed closely with 17 digs.
The Bulldogs had six blocks as a team to Harding's seven. Both squads finished with four service aces, though Harding committed two more service errors (4-2).
Harding suffered just its second defeat in conference play and the fourth overall of the season.
