WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Volleyball suffered a rare home loss on Thursday night, falling 3-1 to Arkansas Tech inside the Pioneer Event Center.
The defeat marks just the Bulldogs' fifth home loss in the last five years (37-5) and their first of the 2025 season.
The opening set was evenly played early at 10-10 before a five-point Arkansas Tech run shifted the momentum and carried the Golden Suns to the win. SWOSU responded in the second, finding its best rhythm of the night in a back-and-forth battle that featured six ties, including at 23-all. Two clutch kills from Sydnee Winfrey closed out the set and evened the match.
Sets three and four both ended with identical 25-20 scores in favor of the visitors. Each frame remained tight until the closing stretch — Tech scored five straight points to break a 20-20 tie in the third, then finished the fourth by taking six of the final seven rallies to secure the victory.
Winfrey led SWOSU with 14 kills on a .294 hitting percentage and added 10 blocks, her second-highest total of the season. Hailey Smith contributed 11 kills and five blocks, while Preslee Alaniz posted a season-high six kills.
SWOSU will look to bounce back quickly when they return to the court Friday to host Harding. First serve is set for 4 p.m. inside the Pioneer Event Center.
