WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Soccer used two late goals to rally past Harding and remain unbeaten in GAC play after Saturday's midday matchup.
The Dawgs (8-2-1, 4-0-1 GAC) now hold a two-point lead over Ouachita Baptist for first place in the conference with seven games left in the regular season.
Prior to kickoff, seniors Riley Massey, Julie Andersen, Ashlyn Stigall, Chloe Jackson, and Ruth Vasquez were recognized for Senior Day.
The first half featured a defensive battle with no scoring from either side, and it began to look as though the Bulldogs were headed for a second straight scoreless draw. Harding, however, broke the deadlock in the second half with a header off a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead—putting SWOSU at risk of its first GAC loss of the season.
The Bulldogs responded in the 64th minute when a poor clearance by the Harding goalkeeper fell to Madelyn Kitchen, who unleashed a strike from outside the box into the top right corner to even the match. It marked Kitchen's first goal of the season and the second of her career.
Ten minutes later, a Harding yellow card set up a SWOSU free kick just outside the box. Saoirse Hourigan's shot on goal was saved, but the rebound fell directly to Laia Costa, who buried the go-ahead goal for the first score of her career.
Harding outshot SWOSU 15–10 and controlled corner kicks 8–1, but the Bulldogs held the edge in shots on goal at 5–3.
SWOSU will hit the road Wednesday to face Northwestern at 6:00 p.m.
