WEATHERFORD – A five-point halftime lead didn't hold as SWOSU fell to Southern Arkansas 68-62 on Thursday following a cold second half of shooting.
Things were looking good and vibes were high at the midway point after Kray Rogers hit a half court buzzer beater to put the Dawgs up 33-28. It capped off a first half that saw SWOSU shoot an even 50% from the field which included six three point makes on 12 attempts.
The second half wasn't so kind, as the Dawgs shot just 31% from the field and 1-of-10 from beyond the arc, paired with a visiting Mulerider team that finished at 65% in the half with five three balls. A few baskets late inflated SWOSU's second half shooting percentage from 21% up into the 30s.
After SAU had overtaken SWOSU in the second half, an 11-2 run that spanned from the 8:20 mark to the 4:45 mark grew the margin even further in the Muleriders favor. Trailing 60-48, a late Bulldog push paired with fouls to extend the game fell short and SWOSU dropped its third straight conference game.
Four finished in double figures, led by MJ Warrior with 17 points and three steals and assists. Tobias Roland added 15, Denali Alexander posted a season best 12, and Kray Rogers ended with 10.
SWOSU (7-7, 4-5 GAC) will look to get back in the win column on Saturday (Jan. 18) against Arkansas-Monticello in the final home game of the month.
