NASHVILLE, Tenn. – SWOSU Volleyball led 1-0 and 2-1 against Alabama-Huntsville in the final game of the Ray Thrasher Classic but could not close out the Chargers in an eventual five-set loss to start Saturday morning.
The Bulldogs finish the opening tournament of the season 1-2. They'll play another three games at a much closer tournament next weekend when they participate in the Oklahoma Baptist Bison Blast next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14.
The 9am match against UAH started strong when the Dawgs hit a match high .269 in a 25-18 set victory. The Dawgs scored eight of nine in the early stage of the set to distance themselves the rest of the way.
Following SWOSU set victories in the first and the third, the Chargers would answer both times to even things up which eventually forced the deciding fifth.
In that final frame, UAH scored the first three points and used that cushion throughout. They led 10-4 before a final push from the Dawgs fell just short. Trailing 12-10, UAH scored three of the final four to close out the match.
For a third consecutive match Lacy Mott (.233) led the offense in kills, this time with a season high 17. Just behind her was Courtney Crownover who also set a season high when she poured in 15 of her own on an efficient .345 hitting. Crownover also had 14 assists. Mott led the team with 11 digs.
